The Ladies of Charity Clothes Closet & Food Pantry (CCFP) partners with caseworkers and social service agencies to provide clothing, food, and household essentials to those in need. Based on the St. Hugo of the Hills Church campus, we provide gently used clothing for all ages, along with hygiene and household items, while our Food Pantry sources food through Gleaners and TEFAP. Donations are accepted weekly and by special appointment. Volunteering at the Clothes Closet & Food Pantry is busy but rewarding—and newcomers are always welcome! Come be part of our mission to serve those in need while having fun and making a difference.

For over 50 years, the Ladies of Charity have embraced the spirit of giving through our Christmas Basket Project, adopting families in need and providing gifts, food, and essential supplies during the holiday season. This year-round effort culminates in a bustling and joyful week of preparation each December, with nearly 100 volunteers coming together to assemble and distribute baskets filled with holiday meals, pantry staples, toys, children's clothing, and household necessities. To further spread holiday cheer, we introduced the Harvest Happy Hour and Santa’s Helpers Christmas Party—two festive events that bring our community together in support of this meaningful project. Join in and help Santa’s elves make some Christmas magic!
Every Tuesday, except on holidays, we provide freshly baked goods to the Matchan Soup Kitchen and Market, offering warmth and nourishment to those in need. These homemade treats not only help feed the body but also lift spirits, bringing a sense of comfort and care to the community. Our dedicated volunteers pour love into every batch, knowing that even the smallest gesture can make a meaningful difference in someone's day. Through this effort, we share kindness, connection, and a little sweetness with those who need it most. A small act of baking, a big act of love.
The Thanksgiving Turkey & Easter Ham Drives are cherished efforts to ensure families in need can enjoy a traditional holiday meal. In partnership with the Matchan Nutrition Center and Soup Kitchen, we provide turkeys for Thanksgiving and hams for Easter, bringing warmth, nourishment, and holiday joy to our community. Join in and donate a frozen ham or turkey just twice a year. By doing so, you help us uphold the spirit of giving and ensure that no family is left without a special meal to share during these meaningful celebrations.
We create handmade blankets for chemotherapy patients at a local hospital, offering warmth, comfort, and a reminder that they are not alone during their treatment journey. Each blanket is crafted with care and love by our dedicated volunteers, bringing a sense of hope and encouragement to those facing difficult times. Our volunteer groups meet once a month from September to June to prepare these meaningful gifts. No experience required - all are welcome to participate in this heartfelt mission. Join us in wrapping others in kindness and support—one blanket at a time!
The Mary’s Mantle Collection is an annual initiative supporting new mothers and babies who reside at Mary’s Mantle, a Catholic home for expectant mothers in need. Through generous donations, we provide essential supplies, clothing, and resources to help these women and their babies as they begin their journey together. This effort reflects our commitment to life, dignity, and compassion, ensuring that every mother and child receives the care and support they deserve. Join us in uplifting new mothers and their little ones—one gift at a time!
The Ladies of Charity fund the purchase of hundreds of rosaries, Bibles, and First Communion books for several parishes in Detroit and Pontiac. Our volunteers traditionally gather to wrap these generous gifts, ensuring deserving children receive them as they begin their journey in the Catholic faith. We also keep the students and their families in our prayers. Through this project, we share faith, love, and support with the next generation.
Through the Mary’s Children initiative, we host a special event for adults with close head injuries, providing them with a day of joy, connection, and care. This gathering offers a supportive and uplifting environment where participants can engage in meaningful activities, enjoy companionship, and feel embraced by the community. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we create a memorable experience that celebrates the dignity and resilience of everyone. Help us bring smiles and warmth to those who deserve it most!
We help foster a sense of community by reaching out to members with care and support. We send thoughtful cards for various occasions—whether it’s encouragement during difficult times, celebrations of milestones, or simply letting someone know they are in our prayers. Additionally, we provide outreach to members as requested, ensuring they feel valued and connected to our mission. Through these small yet meaningful gestures, we strengthen our bonds and remind one another that no one is alone.
The Honor Guard is a deeply meaningful tradition within the Ladies of Charity, offering members the opportunity to stand in reverence at funeral services for fellow members. This solemn act of respect and prayer reflects our commitment to faith, service, and sisterhood. Members may also receive this gesture of prayer and respect upon their passing, ensuring that they are surrounded by the love and support of our community. By participating in the Honor Guard, members uphold the values of compassion and unity, providing comfort to grieving families and honoring the lifelong dedication of our fellow Ladies of Charity.
The Prayer Team offers spiritual support by providing prayers from home at the request of members. Whether for comfort, healing, or guidance, our dedicated team prays for those in need, lifting them up in faith and love. Join us in the power of prayer – bringing hope and strength to others from wherever you are.
